C.S. Pietro

1886-1918

Although C.S. Pietro arrived in the United States in 1908, by 1913 he was receiving recognition in New York as a "society sculptor."

Among his subjects were J. Pierpont Morgan, William Howard Taft, Henry and Clara Ford, and environmentalist John Burroughs (left photo).

Pietro was an organizer and the leader of the Friends of the Young Artists organization in New York.

As Pietro's fame was continuing to grow, he became a victim of the Spanish influenza during the pandemic of 1918. At the time of his death, he was working on a monument planned in Paris to honor the friendship of the United States and France.
