Gaetano Cartaino

1858-1948

Although Gaetano Cartaino had several successful business interests in Sicily, he was a frequent visitor to the United States.

While he never received the artistic acclaim of his son, Salvatore Scarpitta (top photo), he created portraits of his neighbors in Palermo (left photo) and facades for buildings in his home community. (photo below)

Subsequent generations praised Gaetano Cartaino for his influence on their artistic endeavors.
