Friday afternoon a tornado occurred in Rutherford County, and Sheriff Robert Jones said this morning than more than 30 people suffered injuries as a result of the tornado.

1.    A tornado touched down in Rutherford County Friday afternoon, causing injuries to more than 30 people, Sheriff Robert Jones said this morning.

 

The city school board met Monday night and approved a list of new fees for this school year, totaling more than $40, and parents of all students in the city system have to pay these fees.

Police Chief Dennis Gleason said a raid conducted Saturday night at the Tiger Den resulted in police confiscating more than $2,000 worth of marijuana and also in police arrests of 20 persons, including employees of the Tiger Den and its customers.

Members of the Murfeesboro City Council voted last night to rezone land on Sycamore Drive for the building of apartments; residents of that street who oppose the rezoning for apartments plan to come to City Hall Saturday morning and express their opposition to the rezoning for apartments.

A lengthy illness claimed the life of Kinsey Brown at Middle Tennessee Medical Center Tuesday; Kinsey Brown served on the Murfreesboro City Council from 1998 to 2010 and was one of the city leaders who spent a lot of time and energy trying to win public support and city funding for the development of a recreation area in the western part of Murfreesboro.

5.    Kinsey Brown, a former city councilman who worked to build a new park for the west side of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

 

Sheriff Robert Jones held a press conference Sunday at the jail and announced that a group of suspects in a series of burglaries in Murfreesboro now seem to be conducting their larcenies in an area south of Murfreesboro in the northern part of Alabama.

6.    Suspects in a series of burglaries in Murfreesboro apparently have moved their operations to Northern Alabama, Sheriff Robert Jones said Sunday.

 

Apparently the rumors of the past few weeks are true since Mayor Doris Anderson called reporters from all the local news media Monday to her office at City Hall and after a brief address about her accomplishments in office during the past four years announced that she has decided that she will not try for another four years in office.

7.    Mayor Doris Anderson will not seek another term in office, she announced Monday morning at her City Hall office.

 

Traffic on I-24 near La Vergne was stopped for three hours Monday morning after one car collided with two other cars in the northbound lanes as it tried to pass on rain-slickened pavement; the driver of the car that had been trying to pass was injured as were the driver of each other car and three passengers in those two cars.

8.    A three-car accident on I-24 near La Vergne early Monday morning injured six and stopped traffic in the northbound lanes for more than three hours.

 

President Arthur Lane attended the meeting of the State Board of Regents Wednesday in an effort to try to win support for creation of a doctorate in the science of aging, gerontology, because it will benefit the community, the state, the nation and the world in regard to research into the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, for example.

9.    Creation of a doctorate in the science of aging will put MTSU at the forefront of research into effects of Alzheimer’s disease, President Arthur Lane told the State Board of Regents meeting Wednesday.     

 

County teachers Thursday attended a workshop and heard Neil Johnson, who teaches school psychology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, discuss bullying and indicate that bullying is as dangerous to those who bully others as it is to those who are bullied.

10.           Bullying is as dangerous for those who do it as it is for their victims, a school psychologist told county teachers at a workshop Thursday.
